“You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection” –Sharon Salzberg
Throughout our lives we’ll have different kinds of relationships- but the longest one you’ll ever have is with you. So on this Valentines Day, remember to invest into that relationship. Here are some ways to get to know yourself better, take care of yourself, and feel comfortable in your own skin.
Write things down. Journal, diary, whatever you want to call it- writing down your thoughts and feelings can be a really great way of coming to understand what’s going on in your own head! If you’re happy, sad, or content, writing down parts of your day or the way you’ve felt about things can help you remember better, process things. As part of your writing (we like to do it at the end of our journaling) list 3 things you love about yourself or 3 things you’re thankful for. Reminding yourself of your blessings and what you’re confident about can help build your self-esteem ☺
Here is one of our fav journals if you’re looking for one to buy!
Take a bath. But please, spare us the instagram picture of your legs 😉 Warm water is soothing! Stop at Target, Sephora, or Lush and grab a bath bomb (I always like one that has good essential oils like lavender to help me relax), maybe light a few candles and RELAX. Afterwards, put on a facemask and watch your favorite movie.
Here are some links to some fun bath bombs, bubbles, and masks to try out!
Read a book. Reading can be an incredible way to escape. Movies are also great for helping us get our mind off certain things, but it’s also easy to multitask while watching a movie. Books require more attention so it may give you a better feeling of being somewhere else for a while. Pictured below are some of our favorite books if you’re not sure where to start ☺ (The last book in the photo below, Washington’s Farewell, is what Rehn is currently reading. I’ll let you guys know if I like it! But my all time fav is The Alchemist.)
Eat something delish. Whether it’s calling in a to-go order at your favorite restaurant, making yourself a new recipe that you’ve been wanting to try, or eating a sweet treat, having a delicious bite can be great way to “Treat Yo’ Self!” If you’re trying a new recipe, the end result can be very rewarding and leave you feeling accomplished.
No matter what happens in the different relationships in your life, at the end of the day you’ll always have yourself. So don’t forget to talk time for yourself, get to know yourself, and LOVE yourself.
